When people ask me what it was like crossing an ocean with two little kids, I don’t really know how to answer it in a way that one can understand.  I feel an ocean as vast and incredible as the Pacific deserves more of a description than just “pretty cool”.   I guess to describe what it was like sailing across it would be what one might experience when giving birth.   For those Moms who have been there, you know that you go through feelings of total exhaustion and blissful elation; intensely scary moments, yet exhilarating highs.  And after a few months have passed, you think, “man, I could do that again!”

Well, that was what it was like for me, and yes, I WOULD do it again. The moments we shared as a family on that 25-day passage to the Marquesas were some of the most incredible ones I could ever imagine.  Days passed slowly and some uneventfully, but as the thousands of miles eventually ticked down to zero on the GPS, our little team realized we were enjoying the journey so much that the destination didn’t seem so important after all.  (But it was still quite a party!)

On my page I’ve included some journal entries or letters home from a few of the countries visited.  I found the South Pacific islands to be the most amazing and spectacular of anyplace I’ve seen thus far and the city of Colon, Panama gets the ugly award.  Guatemala was diverse, interesting, hospitable, dirty and amazingly beautiful all wrapped up in one big sprawling country.   Belize gets the thumbs up for outdoor recreating.  Too much to list and great for the family.  I could go on and on, but I think I’d start sounding like a guide book.

Above all, what I’ve learned thus far on our travels with our little gals is to embrace the unknown (countries) with open arms and an open mind.  Educating oneself is by far the best assurance of a safe and successful trip.  When you are flexible and fun, kids will be too.  It doesn’t matter if you are on top of some Mayan ruins or at Chucky Cheese’s.  I’ve learned so much these last 3 years traveling with Maddie and Kelsey.  They’ve taught us some great parenting lessons along the way as well as a little secret ingredient called patience.   They sure can test it though!

Thanks for checking out our new site and enjoy the pictures.  We look forward to seeing you in New Zealand this winter.   Good on ya!
